What causes acid reflux disease?

Stomach abnormalities. One common cause of acid reflux disease is a stomach abnormality called a hiatal hernia, which can occur in people of any age. A hiatal hernia happens when the upper part of the stomach and LES (lower esophageal sphincter) move above the diaphragm. This is the muscle wall separating your stomach from your chest.

What causes gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)?

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is caused by the abnormal backflow (reflux) of food, stomach acid, and other digestive juices into the esophagus eat small, frequent meals and to avoid food for at least 2 hours before lying down. Smoking and foods that aggravate heartburn should be avoided.

How does acid affect a battery?

Since electrical current moves more easily through water (top part of the cell) than it does through acid (bottom part of the cell), stratified acid concentrates charging current and charging heat at the upper part of the plate, accelerating corrosion which dramatically lowers the battery’s cranking power (“CCA”).

Why do batteries swell?

Batteries can swell for two main reasons. The first, reversible thermal expansion and contraction as batteries warm and cool, is typically minor, predictable in scale and timing, and relatively easily accommodated in product design, for example by designing a volume tolerance in the battery compartment.

Does low stomach acid cause reflux?

Despite online claims, there is no evidence that low stomach acid causes reflux. The treatment for acid reflux and heartburn is PPIs, which lead to low stomach acid. People who have been taking PPIs for 6-months or longer are more likely to have troublesome bloating and SIBO 8.

What happens if acid sinks to the bottom of a battery?

When heavier or hotter acid stratifies or sinks to the bottom of the battery’s cells, the upper portion of the cells is subject to low specific gravity, and the active material in this area is no longer capable of proper discharge activity.

What is acid stratification and why is it bad for batteries?
