Smart charging with Charge Anytime unlocks the cheaper charging rate of 7p per kWh. It helps move the UK energy system towards a smarter, greener way of using energy. If more people use energy when the grid is greener, together we can rely less on fossil fuels to keep power flowing at peak times. Can I get Charge Anytime as soon as I switch to OVO?
The only difference is that the Charge Anytime app will periodically instruct your EV to start or stop charging when plugged in at home – this is to maximise use of the greenest and cheapest energy on the grid. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Charge Anytime app does not interact with any other part of your EV.
Proper and regular use of battery chargers can therefore increase the reliability and the service life of the battery. Even though there is no risk of overcharging with the use of a high quality charger, the battery should not remain connected to the charger for more than 24 hours. A full charge is usually achieved by charging overnight.
If you’re switching to OVO and would like to add Charge Anytime to your plan, you’ll need to wait until your energy supply and online account is fully set up. This could take up to 4 to 6 weeks. Once you’re all set up, head over to the Offers section in your online account and select Charge Anytime.
However, with proper and careful handling, all drivers can charge the battery themselves. Charging of the battery in the vehicle is simpler and is preferable for safety reasons, although this is not always possible. If no garage or an electricity connection is available, there is often no alternative to charging the battery outside of the vehicle.
The Charge Anytime app estimates your charge and charges your EV to full. If you want to limit the maximum charge of your EV, we recommend setting this in your EV’s app. The charger can’t override any maximum charge you set. Once your EV stops accepting charge, the app assumes the battery is full and stops charging. Why can’t I add another EV?
