The resin layer protects the ceramic body from cracks by relieving stress caused by thermal shock and board flexure. 3-layer structure of Cu, Ni and Sn.
Soft termination is a type of MLCC in which a conductive resin layer is provided between the Cu and Ni plating layer. (Fig. 2) ・The resin layer absorbs stress accompanying expansion or shrinkage of a solder joint due to thermal shock or flex stress on the board and prevents cracking of the capacitor element.
Thanks to the low resistance of the terminal electrodes of the new CN series these MLCCs are suitable for battery lines in automotive and industrial robot applications, where they help to improve system reliability. The capacitors can also be used in automotive ECUs, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and automated driving systems.
TDK predicts these products will encourage replacing MLCCs in power lines with soft termination to improve reliability. These new products have a higher capacitance than conventional products, help reduce parts and downsize equipment. TDK will continue to expand its MLCC line-up to meet customer needs in the future.
