BEIJING, Nov 25 (Reuters) - China's electric vehicle giant BYD (002594.SZ) said it will launch a new generation of blade batteries in 2025, Chinese state media CGTN reported on Saturday.
“I think in the coming years, 2025, BYD will introduce the new generation of our remarkable blade battery,” Cao said during the interview. According to BYD’s executive, the new batteries promise to “enhance the driving distance of our vehicles.” Cao added that they will also have a longer life cycle for various reuse cases.
‘Intelligent’ Chongqing production facility The Blade Battery is produced at BYD’s ultra-modern ‘intelligent’ production facility in Chongqing, China, where the 10 billion yuan (1.3 billion EU) site delivers an annual production capacity of 20GWh.
To address users’ concerns about the safety of EV power batteries, BYD will only use the Blade Battery in all its pure electric models moving forward. As the No. 1 brand in China's EV production and sales for eight consecutive years, BYD has always been committed to safeguarding consumers' safe travel.
FAW has already been using BYD blade batteries in the Hongqi E-QM5 for some time, for example. The blade battery is an in-house development from BYD. The name refers to the unusual format: the pouch cells are very long and therefore resemble a sword blade.
