The current chapter deals with the trends in the supercapacitor market and also sheds light on the properties of supercapacitors cells and modules manufactured by key market players. The supercapacitor market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 30% to US$8.3 billion by the year 2025 (Fig. 10.1) .
Other technology developments that affect capacitance development can be considered new dielectric materials that have smaller total available markets, but higher levels of profitability and are either driven by the needs of a specific niche and narrow supply chain, or a competitive solution to existing, patented technology.
Among these regions, the supercapacitor market is projected to grow at a high CAGR of 23.2% in the Asia Pacific region from 2015 to 2023 owing to industrialization as well as the development of infrastructure . Among the various countries in this region, China is expected to have a dominating market share during the forecast period.
Without lowest cost and high quality, technical advances themselves have limited merit. The four largest market segments that use capacitors are motors, lighting, power supplies, and electronic circuits. Electronic circuits utilize capacitors for coupling, filtering, timing, and control, and each area has different technical requirements. 5.
Ceramics presently appear to be one intrinsically high-temperature, and hence long-lived, technology available that has a significant potential for advancement, particularly with the recent advent of new materials and the multilayer ceramic (MLC) capacitor demonstrated production capacitance and voltage scalability (»100/xF; >500 Vdc) [11,27,28].
Therefore, the appearance of emerging capacitors containing metal ion hybrid capacitors (HCs) and dual-ion capacitors (DICs) is expected to enlarge energy density without weakening power density. [ 8 ]
