Schneider Electric has partnered with Volts, the first energy storage manufacturer in the UAE, for the construction and opening of the nation’s first giga industrial facility to produce Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Abu Dhabi.
The opening, which coincided with the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019, marks the first integrated control system for energy storage in Abu Dhabi. It aims to serve the city by ensuring load balancing during the day.
Energy management and automation major, Schneider Electric has inaugurated a new battery lab in Bengaluru to advance R&D in battery technologies. UAE-based energy storage provider, Volts UAE and Scheider Electric has signed an agreement to set up a giga-industrial facility for the production of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Abu Dhabi.
Volt has begun developing the first Middle East giga factory for the production of industrial energy storage systems and batteries in Abu Dhabi, and as its first step, signed cooperation agreements with the world's large companies including Schneider Electric, Honeywell, and CC7 Europe B.V., Mlynchik, stated in a social media post.
Abu Dhabi Department of Energy has opened the region's first Grid Scale Battery Deployment and the world's largest Virtual Battery Plant with a capacity of 108 megawatts distributed over 10 sites across the emirate.
"The landmark deployment ensures sustainable energy supply across several key sites in Abu Dhabi as part of an integrated plan to secure sufficient electrical power production to meet growing demand for energy in the emirate," said Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, chairman of the Department of Energy.
