Utilizing this system, SoftBank was able to introduce solar energy to a network center location in the Kanto region, an area that encompasses Tokyo and seven surrounding prefectures. Terras Energy and SoftBank established a scheme where SoftBank leases power plants and pays service fees, including maintenance costs.
SoftBank Tomatoh Abira Solar Park ( ソフトバンク苫東安平ソーラーパーク) is a solar power generating station in Abira, Hokkaido, Japan. It has a capacity of about 111 MW, making it the third-largest operational solar plant in Japan. Commencement of construction was marked with a groundbreaking ceremony held on 7 October 2013.
This initiative was first launched in 2021 following the announcement of SoftBank’s Carbon-neutral 2023 Declaration. As part of this effort, different departments at SoftBank discussed potential energy-saving measures and decided upon solar energy as one of them.
Softbank Yakumo Solar PV Park is a 102.3MW solar PV power project. It is located in Hokkaido, Japan. According to GlobalData, who tracks and profiles over 170,000 power plants worldwide, the project is currently active. It has been developed in a single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in October 2020.
The deal will see SB Energy become a subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho, the trading arm of the Toyota Group, with SoftBank retaining a 15% stock ownership ratio. The two companies will also pursue collaboration across their renewable energy businesses, with a view to achieving carbon neutrality.
