A sustainable and dependable infrastructure is becoming more important to accommodate the ever-increasing demand for electric cars (EVs). Renewable-based smart EV charging stations are an innovative solution that not only provides charging services but also leverages renewable energy sources to minimize the environmental impact of transportation.
Smart charging allows grids to leverage EVs as mobile storage and generation, making the grid more resilient when facing power outages or shortages. Smart charging can incentivize EV charging when renewable sources like solar or wind are generating high levels of electricity. This helps grids incorporate more renewables.
Features of smart charging: Smart charging is designed to reduce and manage the impact of EVs on the electricity system. It guarantees a balance between the supply and demand of energy by moving using energy away from existing peaks and flattening the curve as shown in the illustration below.
An intelligent electric vehicle charging station that draws power from renewable sources, such as solar panels, is the proposed solution in this project. In order to optimise the charging process and regulate energy consumption, the charging station will use advanced technology like the Internet of Things (IoT).
When connected to a power source such as your home system, a solar panel, or other energy sources, a mobile EV charger stores electrical energy in its built-in battery. Once fully charged, this stored energy is readily available to be transferred to your electric vehicle's battery whenever you require it. The mobile charger functions as an efficient energy storage and transfer system.
A key focal point of this review is exploring the benefits of integrating renewable energy sources and energy storage systems into networks with fast charging stations. By leveraging clean energy and implementing energy storage solutions, the environmental impact of EV charging can be minimized, concurrently enhancing sustainability.
