However, the disadvantages of using li-ion batteries for energy storage are multiple and quite well documented. The performance of li-ion cells degrades over time, limiting their storage capability.
In this article, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of nine types of battery energy storage: Sealed Lead Acid, Lithium Batteries, and others. Sealed Lead Acid batteries have advantages such as raw materials that are easily available and at relatively low prices, good temperature performance, and suitable for floating charge use. They also have a long service life and no memory effect, making them effective in a wide temperature range from -40~+60℃.
To perform more validation for the liquid cooling method, the results of the present study are compared with the results of Liu et al. for a rectangular mini-channel battery thermal management system. The thermal management system consists of a battery pack in which every five cells are sandwiched by two cooling plates.
In the study of Park and Jung , authors compared the air cooling and direct liquid cooling with mineral oil for thermal management of a cylindrical battery module. Their results indicated that for the heat load of 5 W / c e l l, the ratio of power consumption is PR = 9.3.
The results of the present study are in concordance with the previous studies comparing the air type and liquid type cooling methods for batteries. According to Fig. 19, a temperature increase of 13.5 °C is achieved by both air cooling and liquid cooling methods.
The advantages of flow batteries include lower cost, high cycle life, design flexibility, and tolerance to deep discharges. Additionally, high heat capacity is also effective in limiting high temperature rises in flow battery systems, making them safer systems compared to other rechargeable battery systems.
