Mechanical abuse mainly refers to compression, dropping, and other impacts, as well as long-term exposure to vibration and physical impacts in vehicles, all of which can lead to battery safety failure. Figure 1. Classification of factors causing safety issues in lithium-ion power batteries.
However, the working environment of EVs is complex and variable, and the factors leading to LiB failure are complicated.According to the information of the National Big Data Alliance of New Energy Vehicles, batteries are one of the main causes of EVs failures, causing more than 50% of fires .
This article aims to answer some common questions of public concern regarding battery safety issues in an easy-to-understand context. The issues addressed include (1) electric vehicle accidents, (2) lithium-ion battery safety, (3) existing safety technology, and (4) solid-state batteries.
The faults of the battery system cause significant damage to people's life and property safety. Meanwhile, it also increases people's safety anxiety about EVs [5, 6]. Although various fault analysis and diagnosis methods have been widely used in battery faults research [7, 8].
However, a fire caused by electrical failure is much easier to put out if caught early than that caused by thermal runaway in a battery. Therefore, in some cases, the consequences of electric vehicle failure appear more dangerous. How Can One Escape from an Electric Vehicle during a Failure?
With technology and industry development, energy and environmental issues are becoming increasingly prominent. Electric vehicles (EVs) have received extensive attention and development due to their clean, efficient, and environmentally friendly features . However, the battery system safety of EVs is a concern topic [2, 3].
